Privacy Policy
Dart Scoreboard is made by Jon Hill. This page explains what the app does with information, in plain language.
What stays on your devices and in your iCloud
Your games, players, photos, stats and settings are stored on your device and, if you’re signed in to iCloud, in your own iCloud account, where Apple’s privacy protections apply. I can’t see them.
When you play a game across devices, that game is shared through iCloud with the people you invite or who join with your code, and they see the players’ names and photos in that game. When an Apple TV hosts a game, a small record with the game’s name, the TV’s name and a four-digit code is kept in the app’s public iCloud database for a few hours so phones can find it. It contains nothing about you.
Usage counts
The app sends anonymous usage counts to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service based in Germany: which kinds of games are played and how features are used, along with the app version, device model and system version. No names, scores or personal details are sent, and the identifier used is a salted hash that can’t be traced back to you. TelemetryDeck’s privacy policy: https://telemetrydeck.com/privacy/
Purchases
Dart Scoreboard Pro subscriptions are handled by Apple. To keep track of what you’ve bought, the app uses RevenueCat, which receives your App Store purchase receipt and an anonymous identifier, never your name or Apple Account. RevenueCat’s privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/
Sponsored apps
From version 5.0.2, if you don’t have Dart Scoreboard Pro, the Home screen on iPhone and iPad shows one small card suggesting another independent developer’s app, marked “Ad”. It comes from Kickstart Exchange, a free swap between independent developers: showing their apps is how Dart Scoreboard gets shown in theirs.
To choose a card and count that it was shown or tapped, the app sends Kickstart Exchange details about the app, not about you: which app and version it is, whether it’s on an iPhone or iPad, and the country of your App Store account. It also sends Apple’s signed record that this copy of the app came from the App Store. That record carries Apple’s own reference numbers for the download; Kickstart Exchange checks it, discards it straight away and keeps none of them. No name, account or advertising identifier is sent, nothing from your games, and nothing that follows you from one app to another. Like any internet request it comes from your IP address, which Kickstart Exchange doesn’t store. What it keeps is counted per app, not per person.
Tapping the card opens that app’s page on the App Store, and tapping “Ad” lets you report a card. The card is part of the Home screen (the sidebar on iPad), never the scoreboard itself, and never appears on Apple TV or Apple Watch. Dart Scoreboard Pro hides it, and if you bought the app back when it was paid you never see it. Kickstart Exchange’s privacy notice: https://exchange.kickstart.tools/privacy
Feedback
If you send feedback from the app, the email comes from your own mail app and includes the app version and your device model so I can help. I use it only to reply to you.
Feature requests
From version 5.1.1, Settings on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV has a board where you can suggest features, vote for the ones you want and comment on them. It runs on Kickstart Signal. What you write there (a request’s title and description, or a comment) and your votes are sent to Kickstart Signal. Nothing you write appears to anyone else until I’ve read it and chosen to publish it, and I may tidy a request’s wording before I do.
The board asks for no name, email or account. The first time you vote, suggest or comment, the app makes a random identifier for this installation so that each vote counts once; it isn’t tied to you, your device or your Apple Account, and just looking at the board doesn’t create it. If you have Dart Scoreboard Pro, your requests, votes and comments are marked as coming from a Pro subscriber, so I can see what Pro members want. As with the sponsored-app card, the app may also send Apple’s signed record that this copy came from the App Store. Kickstart Signal’s privacy notice: https://signal.kickstart.tools/privacy
No tracking, no accounts
The app has no third-party tracking and no accounts to create, and its only advertising is the sponsored-app card described above. It doesn’t collect your location or contacts, and the only photos it touches are the player photos you choose, which stay in your iCloud.
Children
The app isn’t directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
